Three Carols for flute & piano or harp

Three Carols
for flute and piano or harp (2016)
in the collection, Weihmachtsgeschichten

Certosa Verlag, 2 minutes

The descants for Three Carols were written for Isolde Weiermüller-Backes for her anthology of Christmas music, Weihmachtsgeschicten or Tales of Chirstmas, published by her press, Certosa Verlag, in 2016.

The carols are moderately easy for both flute and piano (or harp). The first carol is the anonymous tune, “Lo, how a rose” harmonized by Praetorious in 1609. The second carol is Gustave Holst’s 1905 carol, “In the Bleak Mid-Winter.” The third carol is a Negro Spiritual called “Rise Up, Shepherds, an’ Holler.” Only the descants are original.
